Coconut Creek is a quiet little town snuggled in Broward County. Its old world charm with just the right amount of modernization is endearing to many. As the name suggests, the city borrows its name from the coconut trees that line up its spotless beaches. What makes it a pleasant sight is its verdant landscape and planned roads making it one of the best cities to live in Florida. While Coconut Creek is every bit a visual delight, a short distance away from it lies a 225-foot mound of landfill area, also infamously known as ‘Mount Trashmore.’ The chemical-infused debris was dumped in this area back in 1965. However, it was only in 2010 when the local authorities came to an agreement that food and other decaying materials will not be dumped in this landfill. As a result of concerted efforts of the city government and that of the locals, the odors soon dissipated, but the chemically-rich mound still stands.
